For an undisclosed sum, E! Online content will be integrated into Tribe's youth-oriented portal sites in Melbourne and Sydney, while in return Tribe content will be used on the E! Online portal.
Los Angeles-based E! Online delivers daily entertainment news and information and claims to have a reach of more than 5.3 million U.S. adult users each month.
Tribe plans to expand its offering to cover all Australian major cities by mid-June, and will launch its first international site latribe.com in Los Angeles in July, followed by londontribe.com in August this year.
Tribe founder and chief executive officer Milt Barlow said he hoped to have a local Tribe portal in at least 20 international cities by the end of 2001.
"Both Tribe and E! Online are complementary in their vision of online content being integrated with traditional integrated content," he said.
At the same time, E! Entertainment executive vice president Mark Feldman said the deal would help the company extend its brand into local and European online markets.
