German Christian Democrats Appoint Internet Speaker

[Berlin] The Federal Representative of the German Christian Democrats (CDU) have appointed Thomas Heilmann to a new post as "Internet Speaker" of the party. Heilmann is a managing partner in the advertising company Scholz & Friends.

Heilman is to work together with the new General Secretary Ruprecht Polenz in leading a commission to work on a German Internet development program. The intention is to "pool expertise in the country, in the media economy and in the sciences, and to get international experts involved", it was reported in Berlin.

The CDU/CSU called upon the German federal government in mid April to appoint an Internet representative.

Improvement is necessary in the education system, civil service and public administration, the party said. Start conditions for new businesses must also be improved. "Germany must find a strategic answer to the challenge of the Internet. We need to make a big nationwide push for improvement", commented the Christian Democrats.
