During a speech today at the Suntec International Convention Center in Singapore, Microsoft chairman Bill Gates introduced a series of initiatives aimed at supporting the Singapore ONE high-speed network project.
Gates said Microsoft will collaborate with five organizations on separate initiatives in the process.
The software giant will work with SingTel to establish video-on-demand (VOD) and broadband services for the Singapore market, and join with Singapore CableVision (SCV) to deliver set-top boxes based on the Microsoft Windows CE operating system.
Gates said his company will also work with Television 12 to deploy on-demand television video services in Singapore based on the Microsoft Broadcast Architecture, NetShow server, and other technologies.
"Microsoft is committed to being a partner to Singapore ONE and the country's IT industry and economy," Gates was reported as saying. "It's an incredible opportunity to share information, to improve the educational system, and to allow the businesses in the country to reach out in a way they never have before."
