Network Solutions Expands Into Asia-Pacific Markets

Network Solutions, Inc. (NSI) today announced plans to develop marketing channels in the Asia-Pacific area for its WorldNIC Services.

To further this effort, the company signed a marketing agreement with NY-based Domain Asia, Inc. to build channels in China, Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

The company said it is responding to an increase in the registration of .com, .net, and .org domains in Asian-Pacific countries.

"Many Asia-Pacific companies are trading companies that operate globally and demand an international brand like .com, .net and .org," said Doug Wolford, NSI's senior vice president, marketing and sales, in a statement.

"These days, as companies look to trade internationally for even small quantities of goods, a global Internet identity can transform the lives of all those people who simply cannot afford to advertise or even travel to meet business partners overseas."

Network Solutions said a recent report from International Data Corporation (IDC) revealed that the number of Internet users in the Asia-Pacific region will climb considerably in 1998, and it is projected that in some countries numbers will double.

Gary Hayward, NSI's vice president, international marketing, said that from March '97 to March '98, China's .com registrations grew more than 500%.
