This new project will see Websurfer Internet set-top boxes placed in 15 student homes/schools in Manitoba school divisions immediately.
Parents and students will have access to SchoolNet and other sites using Websurfer Inc.'s Internet TV set-up box, and BeyondTV, a television content environment developed by ViewCall Canada.
Based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, ViewCall Canada is a subsidiary of Canada's Manitoba Telecom Services Inc., which pursues distribution of new media targeted at the Internet appliance industry in Canada. Its flagship product is BeyondTV.
Canada's SchoolNet is a collaborative initiative led by Industry Canada, in co-operation with provincial and territorial governments and in partnership with the educational community and the private sector to facilitate access of all 16,500 schools and 3,500 libraries to the Internet by the end of fiscal year 1998.
