The facility to report crimes online to the Police Department of News South Wales in Australia is one of the features of a major new Internet initiative launched today by the NSW Government at Internet World Australia Pacific 98.

"For the first time in New South Wales, the State Government is offering people an electronic way to help in the fight against crime," said Kim Yeadon, Minister for Information Technology.

The police site is one of 160 government agencies now available on the Web, all connected under the banner Service.nsw.

The NSW State Government is the first in Australia to co-ordinate the full range of services available in the state, as well as offering 900 links to related services.

Consumers can now use Service.nsw to report a crime, access libraries, undertake tertiary education, pay electricity and water bills, as well as browse public transport timetables.
