Monster.com Launches Two More European Sites

[June 5] Online careers site Monster.com announced Monday the extension of its European operations to Germany and Ireland.

Owned by global recruitment agency TMP Worldwide, Monster.com is launching Monster.de in collaboration with the German careers site stellenborse.de. The new site starts business with a database of 8,000 CVs.

Jeff Taylor, chief executive officer of Monster.com, said Germany and Ireland were both important and promising markets in his company's European expansion program.

"As well as being Europe's largest labor market, analysts expect Germany to account for 26.2 percent of total European e-commerce operations by 2004. This is a prime location for Monster.com, as we continually strive to provide job seekers and employers all the benefits and services they need from a global perspective."

The two new sites will tighten Monster.com's grip on the European recruitment market, where it already has sites in France, the U.K., the Netherlands and Belgium.

The next countries to be targeted by Monster.com are Spain, Italy, Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic -- and according to reports there will be more to follow.

At its March 2000 audit, Monster.com revealed it was getting 15.2 million unique visits per month, a figure that should grow significantly with the opening of all the European sites.

Recruitment, with its search-intensive characteristics, is one of the Internet's most natural applications. Some experts believe that 55 per cent of all recruitment will take place over the Web within five years.

However, in a highly competitive market the winners are likely to be those that offer the most comprehensive services for job-seekers and recruiters alike. Monster.com says it aims to provide a total service -- and become the industry leader in Europe by the end of this year.
