Canadian Firm Sets Up Domain Name

A Toronto firm will soon begin taking bids for domain names ending in .tv.

The DOT TV Corp. is handling registrations on behalf of the south Pacific nation of Tuvahlu. President Jason Chapnik said the easy-to-remember dot TV suffix will be a great way to attract internet users to television or streaming video content.

"That's the next wave of the Internet, and as website developers, that's where we're going to next, that's what attracts people. We're hoping that people feel comfortable in using .TV brands as part of their online marketing strategy. The early adopters will be rewarded with the best names early on," Chapnik said

DOT TV is taking applications and $1,000 deposits now at the company's Web site. An auction will be held in February to prevent domain speculation and to settle contested applications.
