Britons Click with Yahoo!

Yahoo! Inc. Wednesday teamed up with British Telecommunications PLC (BT) to launch a new pay-as-you-go Internet service in the United Kingdom.

In partnering with Yahoo! on the Yahoo! Click Internet service, BT will provide its customers with Internet access and Web navigation through Yahoo!'s Web directory as well as additional information services. It is scheduled to launch by the end of November. Pricing was not disclosed. The new service can be accessed at the Yahoo! UK & Ireland Web site.

Users will be charged on their BT phone bill for the time spent using the Internet. There is no monthly subscription charge or registration form.

The service mirrors Yahoo!'s American offering, Yahoo! Online powered by AT&T Worldnet Service.

"Ease of access through BT Click coupled with Yahoo!'s highly successful Web guide service makes Yahoo! Click a winning combination," said John Swingewood, BT's director of Internet and multimedia services. "BT launched its innovative pay-as-you-go Internet access service to help grow the Internet market; today's announcement will do much to encourage this expansion."
