Macromedia Ships Generator On Solaris

Macromedia is shipping Generator, its dynamic graphics server, for the Sun Solaris operating environment.

Generator works with Netscape's Enterprise or the Apache Web server to deliver dynamic graphics on-the-fly. It enables frequently updated data, such as headlines, ad banners, maps, calendars, charts, etc. - to be edited with new content and served quickly.

"Macromedia Generator and the robust Sun Solaris operating environment enable Sun enterprise customers to deliver high-volume, media-centric Web sites for e-commerce and real-time news and information services," said Bill Correll, group manager for digital media markets, Sun Microsystems. "By working with Macromedia, we're providing users with a more compelling and personalized online experience with fast, reliable performance."

Macromedia Generator works rather like the "mail merge" function in a word processing system, separating design and content in a similar way. It is ideal for web sites that provide personalized or frequently changing graphical content.

Versions of Macromedia Generator are also available for Microsoft Internet Information Server on Windows NT, and Microsoft Personal Web Server for Windows 95. It costs $2,999 per processor.
