In a statement, the companies said they will test the third generation wireless technology named 1xEVolution (1xEV). The system, a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) wireless technology based on High Data Rate (HDR), was jointly developed by both companies' operator requirements.
The trial, to begin over the Kansas City, Mo.-based Sprint PCS network in the first half of 2001, involves
testing and verification of the 2.4 megabit per second (Mbps) 3G data capability.
