Loudeye technologies, Inc. yesterday announced support for the Advanced Audio Coding digital media standard.
According to company officials, this move represents the company's continuing commitment to embrace the latest technologies and processes to meet customer needs.
AAC has already been incorporated into Loudeye's Digital Media Center and is available immediately for Loudeye's customers to add to their digital media strategies and business plans.
AAC is currently widely regarded as one of the world's premier codes for digital media content and is the latest technology, co-developed by experts in the art and science of audio compression, and standardized as part of the MPEG-2 specification.
Compared to MPEG-1 Layer 3 audio, more commonly known as MP3, AAC provides higher quality audio reproduction, yet it requires approximately 30% less data.
With the addition of AAC, Loudeye's Digital Media Centers now support 15 downloadable and streaming formats including MPEG1, MPEG2, QuickTime, WindowsMedia and Real Media, among others.
