PeopleSoft Ships Web-based ERP Solution

PeopleSoft on Tuesday declared that its PeopleSoft 8, its first version that is entirely based on HTML software, began shipping over the weekend without a hitch.
The product applications are designed to be delivered over a standard Internet browser for comprehensive business management as opposed to being administered over a client/server architecture.
"The product is the only enterprise solution on the market that is pure Internet-zero code on the client, zero screen scraping, zero client server," stated Craig Conway, PeopleSoft president and CEO.
The new product suite, which include customer relationship management, employee self-service and supply chain management, comes after a two-year commitment and $500 million worth of technology investments. But, despite the company's self-proclamation, PeopleSoft 8 is far from the industry's first pure web-based e-business application. If anything, PeopleSoft enters a very crowded field of providers of thin-client enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions.
According to Conway, the product's platform is reported to be the first open XML platform to offer scalability and ease of use for all users. "The product requires no client software other than a standards Web browser, giving users the ability to fun their business anytime, anywhere. This results in lower costs of IT infrastructure, network administration and information access."
