Software Organizes Scanned Pages, Documents On Desktop

Caere Corporation announced PageKeeper Standard, a new document software package that enables users to organize both scanned pages and electronic documents---such as Word, Excel, and Web pages--in a single desktop.

The product is offered at what the vendor is billing as an "unprecedented" price of $39.

With PageKeeper Standard, Caere said scanner users can manage all of their documents within a single application. They can organize, use, and retrieve documents on their PCs without needing to move to another application to examine different file types.

"We're all constantly bombarded with new information--word processing documents, spreadsheets, digital photos, web pages, all sorts of files. Not to mention all the paper documents that clutter our desks and fill our filing cabinets," said Chad Kinzelberg, Caere's VP marketing.

"PageKeeper Standard makes it easy to manage all these documents by bringing them together in one application. With PageKeeper, users can focus on content and not worry about file type."

Users can scan in their paper documents in black and white, grayscale, or color. PageKeeper Standard provides access to the stored images, together with access to word processing documents, spreadsheets, and image files. Users may organize the documents into folders, clip related documents together, locate documents by searching for a word, browse thumbnail views, and make annotations.

Caere said that PageKeeper Standard will be available from June 15, 1998.
