Compaq Calls on Net2Phone

For the second time in as many days, Net2Phone has announced a partnership with a leading industry name.

The VoIP provider Wednesday said it will bundle its YAP phones with the new Compaq Pressario computers. The YAP phone, designed to facilitate Internet calling, is a telephone handset that plugs into the USB port of the computer.

"This new alliance strengthens the build out of IP telephony as the way for people to communicate," said Jonathan Rand, executive vice president, Net2Phone. "By capturing consumers' interest in Internet calling at the point of PC purchase, we can drive more minutes and services to our network."

The YAP products are part of Net2Phone's line of telephony hardware solutions that will terminate calls to any telephone, PBX, fax machine or multimedia Internet-connected PC.

As part of the bundling agreement, those who purchase the new Pressarios will receive 1,500 free minutes of PC-to PC-calls.

The announcements falls on the heels of Yahoo's unveiling of a new service powered by the VoIP provider.
