Due to the the soft market conditions in the Internet advertising sector, Chicago-based yesmail.com has implemented a cost-cutting initiative to best position the company to succeed in the current environment. This initiative included laying off 24 workers, or 14% of the company's workforce.

yesmail President Dave Menzel indicated the lay offs were across all areas of the business, with the primary impact being on the direct sales organization "in order to ensure that our sales force is properly aligned with the current market condition."

Despite the recent softness, Menzel reiterated what industry analysts continue to predict: impressive long term growth in the Internet Advertising Sector. "In fact, Jupiter Research currently forecasts a $16.5 billion dollar market within five years. We are confident that permission email marketing will compose a significant portion of this growth, and yesmail.com will remain a leader in this important segmentof the direct marketing industry," said Menzel.
