Nokia Inc. Monday unveiled the latest version of its WAP developers toolkit complete with a new mobile phone simulator.
The free software tool, Nokia WAP Toolkit 2.1, allows developers to write, test and de-bug WAP applications without actually having a handset or access to carrier infrastructure.
The simulator -- for WAP-enabled Nokia 6200 and 7100 Series phones -- runs on the same software incorporated in the commercial phone versions, allowing developers to prototype WAP services as they would appear on handsets currently in the marketplace. Version 2.1 also includes a June 2000 WAP Forum specification reference implementation simulator, which enables prototyping of next generation WAP services that will be supported in forthcoming handsets.
Nokia said the toolkit was designed so the emulators are downloaded separately from the development environment. This allows new emulators to be plugged in as they become available.
Components of WAP Toolkit 2.1 include:
- WML, WMLScript, WBMP and multi-part editors
- New and updated phone emulators
- WAP Forum June 2000 specifications-based WML browser in reference implementation
- Script interpreter and run-time libraries
- Debugging tools
- Sample applications and Java servlets
- Push simulator.
