Developed by Mercantec of the United States, SoftCart Pro and SoftCart Lite have been used to establish some 8,000 online e-commerce stores worldwide.
The software is installed on a server at an ISP or similar environment, allowing users (the store owners) to set up and manage their online stores simply by accessing the server through a commercial browser.
The newest versions of SoftCart support the Solaris, Linux and Windows NT operating systems. SoftCart performs yen-denominated online settlement using the account settlement software CyberCash CashRegister offered by Cybercash Inc.
Customers can pay using Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Japan's JCB card.
Telenet Japan will provide the software on a rental basis through ISPs and ASPs, with a minimum service period of three months.
In January 2000, Telenet Japan will launch a trial campaign for SoftCart 4.1 under the slogan "Start the e-Service," targeting ISPs.
