Linx Debuts Web Interface for Universal Number Users

Communications service provider (CSP), Linx Communications, Inc. Friday introduced LinxView, an Internet-based personal communications product enabling subscribers to manage calls and messages from their PC.

The LinxView product is a free feature of the Linx Universal Number, which incorporates all phone numbers from a user, including fax and pager, in a single local or toll free phone number. Upon dialing the Universal Number, it rings up to three numbers simultaneously, announces the caller and allows the caller to take the call or send it to voice mail.

By clicking a mouse the user can hear voicemail messages, place calls, view and print faxes, manage speed dial lists, and change telephone numbers. LinxView also allows users to send voice and fax messages as e-mail attachments to any Internet-based e-mail address.

The LinxView application was developed employing technology developed by Linx partner, Priority Call Management (PCM). Newton, Mass.-based Linx Communications bills itself as a new kind of communications company, a Communications Service Providers (CSPs), in which it provides access to all communications products and services with local points of access. The company was founded in 1996.

"Many companies are focusing on unified messaging," said Joe Gately, CEO of Linx Communications. "It has become the buzz word for much of the telecommunications industry. The problem with many unified messaging services is they don't solve the real problem. They still only provide a dead end mailbox -- phone tag is not eliminated."
