eSpin Technologies, Inc. received a pair of grants from the federal government for continued development of nanofiber technology, according to eSpin's President Dr. Jaysh Doshi.

eSpin received a $500,000 grant from the the National Science Foundation in February and a second grant of an undisclosed amount from the Environmental Protection Agency at the end of March.

The company offers custom-made non-woven webs, whiskers and three-dimensional structures of nanofibers. The fibers can be made from a variety of organic polymers (nylon, polyester, polyaramid (Nomex, Kevlar, acrylic, etc.) or biological polymers (protein, collagen, etc.). Potential applications include the use of nanofibers in filtration products, high-performance structures, barrier fabrics and biomedical devices. eSpin's activated carbon nanofibers are being used for end-uses such as thermal insulation, energy storage devices and lightweight structural composites.

eSpin Technologies currently supplies nanofibers for clean room products, nanocomposites, filtration, surgical gowns, biomedical devices and specialty fabrics, among others. eSpin's partners include Fortune 500 corporations, government and military laboratories and research institutions.
