Singapore's Ministry of Manpower Thursday announced CareerLink@MOM, a one-stop advisory and information service to help Singaporeans meet their immediate employment and training needs and enhance their long-term employability. The service offers both Internet-based and one-on-one capabilities.
Launching the service, Minister of State for Manpower Othman Haron Eusofe said, "CareerLink@mom's main focus is on self-help as its emphasis is on promoting personal responsibility in career planning and learning. "The launch of the center at the Ministry of Manpower is timely in meeting the challenges and uncertainty brought about by the New Economy, which provides for greater opportunities for job enlargement and advancement, but at the same time, raised threats of job redundancy and job loss."
In so far as Internet capabilities are concerned, CareerLink@MOM will provide computers for users to surf the Internet to search for job and learning opportunities, try out different career assessment tools available on CD-ROMs and on the Internet, and prepare their resumes.
Also, ministry offices will assist customers in their job search via iJOBS (MOM's Internet job bank), other job channels, and provide advice on alternative job opportunities and training.
