Korea Telecom (KT) said last week the number of subscribers to its broadband Internet service has surpassed two million, a total of 45 percent of Korea's broadband users.

Its Megapass ADSL service secured one million users in September, 2000, taking the largest share in the high-speed Internet service market.

KT said the overall increase in the broadband Internet demand, its low prices and aggressive marketing are behind the success. It plans to grab 50 percent market share by increasing its subscribers to 3.83 million by the end of the year.

The Ministry of Information and Communication estimates the total number of high-speed Internet users at 4.23 million at the end of January, 2001.
