Ericsson said Friday that it will ship its new platform for mobile e-commerce (m-commerce) during the second quarter of this year.
The platform, aimed at wireless operators and service providers, enables development of applications that can manage secure charged transactions. The transactions can be standard credit card charges or micropayments and session-based charges, according to the company.
The latter types of payment are becoming necessary as more sites charge for content, according to the company. Ericsson created the microcredit payment technology in a joint venture with Hewlett-Packard.
The company said the platform is ready for General Packet Radio Service (GPRS). Application programming interfaces will be available free from its Web site.
