Yahoo! Germany, Mannesmann In Internet Access Pact

Yahoo! Germany Thursday teamed with Germany's second largest telco Mannesmann Arcor to provide Internet access.

The new access service launches in May and will be available through Yahoo!'s home page. Upon installation, users can automatically dial the Yahoo! Online number at Mannesmann Arcor and connect directly to Yahoo! Germany's starting page.

Internet users will pay for time logged on the Internet and will be charged Arcor's "Internet by Call" tariff. The company said users will save money since there is no recurring monthly fees or registration costs.

In addition, Yahoo! will integrate Mannesmann Arcor's Internet service as a navigational guide. Users on Mannesmann Arcor's site will link to Yahoo!'s German guide as well as its other international Web services.

"Yahoo! wants to provide Internet users with appropriate and easy-to-use tools, which facilitate optimal Web use," said Peter Wuertenberger, Yahoo! Germany managing director. "By working together with Mannesmann Arcor we are expanding our service with a fast, easy-to-use 'Internet by Call' access"

"We want to simplify Web access and make it more attractive," said Harald Stober, Mannesmann Arcor's chief executive officer. "The co-operation with Yahoo! benefits by the competence of both enterprises. Mannesmann Arcor offers the user efficient and cost-effective Internet access to the world-wide data network, whereas Yahoo! leads the Internet user quickly and effectively through the world-wide Web."
