HK Startup Launches Web Trading Floor For Telecom Capacity

Hong Kong startup Asia Capacity Exchange Limited has launched Asia's first Internet-based market for trading international telecommunications capacity, Virtual Trading Floor.

ACE has introduced an online environment for matching buyers and sellers of telecom bandwidth over the Internet.

"The creation of ACE will lead the telecoms industry toward a more liquid market," said Paula Brillson, ACE's managing director.

"We believe that our service will open up the telecom business and provide what traders have been seeking for a long time -- cheaper more efficient trading."

In conjunction with the deregulation of the Hong Kong telecoms market, ACE soft-launched its provisional service in January of this year.

"The objectives of our launch is to announce the opening of the ACE Virtual Trading Floor to Asian-based carriers, analysts and multinational corporations and to encourage early adoption of ACE as the leading telecoms portal," says Renaud Palliere, ACE's director of marketing.

Palliere predicts that there will a "wholesale rush of traders to the exchange" based upon the results of two months of provisional services and market feedback.

According to ACE, existing bandwidth exchanges in the US and Europe are seeking alliances with the company.

"The growth of Internet-based telecom exchanges is just a matter of getting wider acceptance, that is the key factor in commoditizing this market," Brillson said.
