MP3.com, Inc. Thursday announced it has launched a nationwide, grass-roots campaign, the Million Email March, in support of a bill that was introduced this week by congressional representatives Rick Boucher (D-VA), Richard Burr (R-NC), Ray LaHood (R-IL) and Fred Upton (R-MI). The act (HR5275), if passed, would permit consumers who purchase compact discs to store and listen to their music online by first demonstrating lawful possession of the CDs, without incurring a per-listen charge.

Additionally, MP3.com is launching a legislative web site designed to provide consumers with the means to support legislation that would give them the right to access and listen to their personal CD collections online. The legislative web site provides a step-by-step action plan for CD owners who want to contact key legislators in an effort to generate support for the Music Owners' Listening Rights Act of 2000.

The Million Email March is designed to let individuals send political candidates email messages from their constituents and give candidates the opportunity to demonstrate their concern for listener rights. To be a part of the Million Email March, contact your political representatives by visiting www.mp3.com/million.

"People buying CDs are the lifeblood of the music industry and they should be permitted to use new technologies that give them exciting ways to access their music," said Michael Robertson, chairman and chief executive officer of MP3.com. "We applaud and support elected officials and those seeking office who are working to give consumers access to the music they have purchased, anywhere and anytime."
