Novell's NetWare to Include IBM WebSphere

IBM Corp. Monday announced its WebSphere Web application server will be bundled with Novell, Inc.'s NetWare operating system.

The standard edition of IBM's WebSphere Application Server, a Java-based server that provides a Web application-deployment environment and Web site management tools, will be licensed to Novell for inclusion in the NetWare directory-enabled operating system.

Novell is also licensed to resell WebSphere Advanced Edition, which extends the capabilities of the Standard Edition for scaling Web sites into secure, transactional e-business applications.

The agreement expands on an existing relationship between the two companies. NetWare is currently supported across IBM products such as the Netfinity and OS/390 server lines. Their relationship is designed to foster a comprehensive e-business solution, said John Swainson, IBM Software's general manager, application and integration middleware.

"This agreement is significant in providing customers the support they need to conduct Web-based business activity," he said. "With IBM's WebSphere products, Novell can now provide its NetWare customers the technology to quickly transform into e-businesses.
