Broadband/content provider Pseudo Programs closed its doors today, leaving 170 staffers without jobs and ending the six-year run at "Net Television" started by Josh Harris, an early player in the Silicon Alley scene, a former employee said.

"Thanks to all the viewers and the talent that made Pseudo so Special," said the company's home page this afternoon.

The decision followed reports that the company was running out of cash and having difficulty lining up new investors, especially after efforts to find a buyer fell through.

This afternoon, participants in the remaining Pseudo chat rooms were lamenting the loss of the site (although the chats had none of the usual Pseudo hosts present).

Tracey Marx, a former producer with Pseudo, told atNewYork that the decision to shutter the company came down to the wire. "Up until the last minutes, they were trying to find something, some way, some funding for us to stay alive."

Back in June, the 200-employee firm pink slipped about 16 percent of its staff, citing the need to streamline operations. Immediately after, Pseudo's SpaceWatch channel was sold to Space.com, causing more jitters among employees.
