The CEO revolving door at multimedia Web firm SPACE.com continued to spin with John Ferrarra resigning suddenly less than a year after assuming the post.
A company spokesman confirmed Ferrara's exit and said SPACE.com's board of directors had appointed Mark Wright to act as CEO until a permanent replacement is found. Wright is an executive at Blue Chip Venture Co., one of SPACE.com's earliest backers.
The spokesman declined to comment on the circumstances surrounding Ferrara's departure, which comes less than a year after he was named to replace Lou Dobbs at the company's head honcho.
Dobbs quit as SPACE.com chief executive last April to head back to the television anchor desk. Dobbs, a former anchor and president of CNN Financial News, now anchors CNN Moneyline Newshour, the cable network's nightly business report.
Over the years, SPACE.com has seen its share of senior staff turnover: two presidents -- including Sally Ride, the first woman in space - and at least four vice presidents.
The company, which provides space-related content and multi-media offerings, has struggled though the online ad spending downturn and was forced to implement cutbacks to ride the story.
Since it's inception, SPACE.com has raised two rounds of financing, including a $50 million second round led by Reston, VA-based SpaceVest and Blue Chip Venture Company. PaineWebber, Venrock Associates and Greylock also participated.
The company also has strategic partnerships with television network NBC and the Gannett Co.
