Nettaxi Acquires Plus Net

Community and commerce portal Nettaxi Inc. Monday acquired Plus Net Inc. for approximately $70 million.

Plus Net is a portal site featuring a search engine, Web-based e-mail, and an e-commerce engine. Nettaxi said the acquisition will add to its ongoing expansion efforts.

The Campbell, Calif., company provides news, search engines, arts and entertainment information, government records, financial data, educational materials and sports information to its users. Currently Nettaxi claims more than 80 million monthly page views.

The acquisition brings search topic capabilities specific to Nettaxi communities as well as the entire Web. offering the top 10 results from Nettaxi and other search engines including HotBot, Excite, Alta Vista and Yahoo! The engine also provides personal and comparison online shopping services.

The e-commerce engine enables merchants to conduct credit card transactions in real time and offer their customers a secure shopping environments. In addition, back-end reporting tools are also offered. Nettaxi uses the eCHARGE transaction system for e-commerce deals, allowing customers to charge online purchases to telephone bills rather than credit cards.
