Compaq To Open ERP Center In Taipei, Host Forum In Tokyo

Later this year, Compaq will open an ERP solutions center in Taipei specifically for manufacturing SMEs in the Greater China region.

The Manufacturing Competency Centre will serve as a showcase for enterprise business management applications from Compaq and partners.

Aggressively attempting to carve out a larger share of the manufacturing enterprises market in Asia, Compaq Greater China is also holding its first Manufacturing Leaders' Forum in Tokyo next month.

According to Eila Chin, director of manufacturing industry marketing at Compaq Greater China Division, the company has 70 percent of the world's manufacturing hardware business and is well positioned to meet the region's accelerating demand for manufacturing ERP solutions which Compaq projects will double in Greater China alone by 2001.

The US PC giant's relationships with SAP and Oracle has produced solutions such as SAP R3/PAQ and Oracle's FastForward which the Greater China Division will make available soon to its customers.

Compaq expects nearly 200 manufacturing customers from China, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Taiwan and ASEAN countries to attend the Tokyo Forum scheduled for 8 and 9 April where they will see demonstrations of these latest industry solutions.

Participants will also see the latest application solutions for manufacturing enterprises including ERP, global supply chain management, advanced planning and scheduling, product data management, distributed control systems and more.

Solution partners working closely with Compaq at the Forum include i2 Technologies, Deloitte Consulting, EDS Unigraphics, Microsoft, Oracle, Parametric Technology Corp, SAP, Siebel and many others.

"Manufacturing customers will be able to preview new market trends and a rich selection of solutions, all under one roof," said Chin.

"Our customers will not need to run from pillar to post when they want to choose new solutions for their enterprise," said Chin. "With our partners, Compaq is able to offer a full range of enterprise solutions comprising hardware, software and services."
