The networking subsidiary of Fujitsu Systems Philippines, Inc., Wesolv Open Computing Inc., is preparing for the local networking market's expected move towards convergence of data, voice and video technologies.
"In the next few years, you'll see a lot more [applications] riding on your network," said Felipe Manalang, president of WeSolv."If you look back ten years ago, the network was two things: very specialized, very expensive. Today, however, even smaller companies have started to make use of networking to enhance their productivity, integrating not only data, but video and voice traffic as well."
As Philippine-based companies build up their existing infrastructures, WeSolv expects the integration of telecommunications and networking technologies as one of its major growth markets in the near future.
The company is expanding its technical staff from 30 to 50 by the end of the year.
One important project for WeSolv is the implementation of the frame relay network of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), the dominant player in local telecom industry.
The project runs on Cisco products and solutions; WeSolv is a Cisco business partner and utilizes Cisco products in 70 percent of its business.
"PLDT's move is an indication of how telecommunications companies will make use of the new technologies to gain a wider geographical reach, as well as offer better services to their clients," said Manalang.
"I think the major players will all grow their networks to cover all the key points of the Philippines," added Manalang. "If they are serious about doing business in the country, then they will have a point of presence everywhere."
