Warever Corp. this week released Legion, an Internet utility that looks up IP addresses, puts them in a hosts file, and categorizes them.

The effect, said the vendor, is a significant increase in browsing speed. The software is compatible with Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator and Communicator, as well as online services such as AOL and CompuServe.

"Every IP address registered in Legion will increase browsing speed to an Internet site by an average of two to six seconds per hit, adding up to hours of time saved," said Warever.

Legion lets the user add and delete IP addresses, perform IP look-ups, domain name look-ups, and IP and domain verification. It launches a default browser, e-mail program, or a news reader with a simple double-click on an address. It also supports drag-n-drop and comes with more than 400 preset URLs of the Internet's most popular sites.

Warever Corp. is a subsidiary of LSI Communications.
