CMGI-owned AltaVista Co. Wednesday bought online navigation firm Transium Corp.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Transium will become part of the newly-formed AltaVista Business Solutions Group, which offers global Net search services to e-commerce and portal sites. Transium is AltaVista's latest step in offering search solutions to e-commerce companies, portals and global enterprises.

AltaVista will use this technology to create and host a custom index of a company's Web site or other content and to provide quick, relevant search results to its users.

This solution is expected to be especially attractive to fast-growing companies that need a customized search solution, or to vertical portals that want to provide information to their customers.
