A day after naming an assignee to oversee the sale of its assets, Mortgage.com,, sold its domain name to ABN AMRO Mortgage for $1.8 million.

The unit of Dutch banking group ABN AMRO Bank, also bought the domain name Hipoteca.com -- the Spanish word for mortgage -- from the Sunrise, Fla.-based online lender.

ABN AMRO Mortgage, which is based in Ann Arbor, Mich., also assumed the lease for Mortgage.com's South Florida call center, according to Lewis B. Freeman, Mortgage.com's assignee.

The online mortgage loan provider announced Oct. 31 that it would close down, and has been in the process of selling off its assets one-by-one.

Trading of Mortgage.com shares was halted in midday trading Thursday after it plunged to 2 cents per share, from nearly 5 cents. The Nasdaq Stock Exchange announced today that trading of the stock would not resume until Mortgage.com provided the exchange with further information on its financial status.

Mortgage.com debuted on the exchange Aug. 1999 at $7 a share.
