By John Townley January 17, 2000 Virtual world community provider Avaterra.com this week announced its Media Interface application -- a multimedia interface anchored by Avaterra.com's proprietary community technology. Media Interface combines up to four Internet applications with Avaterra.com's proprietary virtual world technology. Applications can include streaming audio and video, electronic commerce, avatar virtual worlds and any other Web-enabled applications. "This new interface will reposition our company as a key provider of the most multi-functional media applications on the Internet," said David Andrews, Avaterra.com CEO. Since its acquisition from Fujitsu Systems Business of America in May 1999, the company has focused its efforts primarily on the recruitment of consumer traffic to VZones, the company's consumer virtual worlds. VZones has experienced rapid growth, adding 125,000 registered avatar members since the company's formation. The release of the Media Interface is planned for the middle of the first quarter. Avaterra.com expects its availability will generate revenue through major account relationships in the business-to-business and business-to-consumer markets. "The Media Interface places Avaterra.com way ahead of any other Internet interface available today," said Ken Zerbe, Avaterra.com's president. "No other interface offers the capability to literally 'walk through' a mall or store as an avatar and share the experience of watching a video product with others in an online environment simultaneously." |
