Tripod, an online community that is part of the Lycos Inc. network, Tuesday unveiled a next-generation Web site building tool.

Tripod Site Builder, powered by Trellix, is designed to offer Tripod members the ability to quickly create and update Web sites through their browsers, employing a selection of pages, graphics and interactive content. HTML knowledge is not required to use the tool.

The product is a customized version of Trellix Web Express, a browser-based publishing solution for online communities. Tripod members may use the tool to create multi-page sites.

Product features include "Click in Context" editing, which aims to provide users with a consistent and wimple-to-use method of editing and customizing their Web sites; Web Gems, which are intended to simplify the addition of interactivity and specialized content, such as maps, music and merchant affiliate links; and site management tools that are designed to streamline the development and creation of multiple sites.

Although network members differ, they have similar needs, said Don Zereski, Lycos vice president of community.

"They all want a great Web site," he said. "With this product, even members who are just dipping their toes in the water will be amazed by the quality of the site that they can now create themselves."
