Andover.Net Tuesday unveiled Linux.DaveCentral.com, Andover's new Linux application archive site.
Andover.Net surveyed information technology professionals about Linux, Microsoft and the future of the Internet. Results show a very strong awareness and approval for Linux along with a movement towards the Linux operating system.
Results to Andover's survey show that:
- 86% are aware of Linux
- 82% have considered or are considering moving over to Linux
- 66% think Linux will eventually overtake Windows NT
- 59% are hesitant to switch to Linux because not enough applications are available
- Most described Linux as being faster, more reliable and less expensive than Windows NT
Linux.DaveCentral.com features more than 1,500 Linux applications, provides in-depth Linux information and is updated each week with up to 150 new products. The site is designed to appear like Windows Explorer, which is intended to make searching the 1500 applications and 19 product categories a simple process. Products are grouped by function, and include audio, conference, e-mail, games or systems utilities. Applications include freeware and shareware, as well as those available from vendors for a fee.
