IBM Corp.'s alphaWorks Tuesday unveiled its AFP to SVG Transcoder, a server-based application demo for the dynamic conversion of advanced function presentation documents into scalable vector graphics.
The AFP to SVG Transcoder provides businesses with access to online information that is stored in older data formats.
Many businesses still have a large amount of data in old formats, including AFP, a rich graphics and text format used by companies to generate high quality printed forms and documents.
SVG, on the other hand, is a new, open standard that is being developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) for defining two-dimensional graphics in XML. By using the new AFP to SVG Transcoder to convert AFP documents to SVG, users will be able to view AFP documents online, providing them with access to their old data.
