Sterling Software, Secant Technologies Form Alliance

Sterling Software Inc. and Secant Technologies Inc. Tuesday joined forces to form an alliance intended to provide a solution for enterprises seeking to develop scalable and reliable e-business applications.

The goal of the partnership is to reduce development time by providing comprehensive support for the Java 2 platform and enabling developers to focus on business logic.

Sterling Software will integrate its newest application development tool, COOL:Joe, with Secant Extreme Enterprise Server for EJB, to offer customers a faster way to develop and deploy distributed applications using Java and Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) technology.

Together, the two products will seek to provide a development and deployment environment that insulates developers from complex technologies and enables them to focus on developing business logic.

Secant Extreme Enterprise Server for EJB, is a platform designed to reduce development time and provide high performance while implementing true support for open standards and interoperability. The product is based on Secant's Object Transaction Monitor and object persistence technology. Secant Extreme Enterprise Server includes implementations of Java2 Enterprise Edition technologies that provide distributed transactions, security, persistence, events, concurrency control, servlets, Java Server Pages, and integration with legacy systems. A server management system is built into Secant Extreme Enterprise Server for EJB, providing automatic server fail-over, load balancing, server clustering and server monitoring.

COOL:Joe is a model-based development tool targeted at delivering EJB. The product enables Java development teams to architect, create, deploy and manage reliable and scalable enterprise applications using EJB. COOL:Joe's built-in smart features enable developers to generate EJBs automatically from component specifications, to create, test and debug business logic and to deploy specifications to an application server. In addition, COOL:Joe automatically generates the EJB infrastructure code, further enabling developers to concentrate on business logic.
