Internet Explorer 9 Ups Standards Support

Microsoft's browser adds more HTML5-friendly features.

With the browser wars already entering a new phase, Microsoft is busily prepping the next edition of Internet Explorer. So far, that's meant that it's signaled its support for H.264 -- along with archrival Apple's Safari browser, as it turns out.

In its most recent developer release, Microsoft is laying out more of its IE9 plans, unveiling support for several HTML5 multimedia tags and other enhancements. HTML Goodies takes a look at Platform Preview 3 (PP3) and the implications for Web developers.


Microsoft is shipping Platform Preview 3 (PP3) of Internet Explorer 9 (IE9), which company officials say features improved performance in both compatibility test scenarios as well as real world tasks.

The latest platform preview adds support for HTML5 audio, video, and canvas tags along with support for ECMAScript, according to a post on Microsoft's (NASDAQ: MSFT) IEblog Wednesday afternoon by Dean Hachamovitch, general manager of Internet Explorer.
