New Linux Kernel Adds AppArmor Security

Novell first released the source code for the AppArmor security system in 2006, but in the time since, it's been tough sledding trying to corporate it into the main Linux kernel. And it wasn't for lack of effort.

But in the end, it was Canonical, the lead commercial sponsor of Ubuntu, that succeeded in bringing App Armor into the main Linux kernel. Linux Planet has the story.

After years of being outside of the mainline, the AppArmor security system is now finally part of the main Linux kernel.

Linux founder Linus Torvalds formally released the 2.6.36 kernel this week nearly three months after the release of the 2.6.35 kernel.
