Eclipse Debuts New Orion Web Development Tool

What isn't going to the cloud these days? Perhaps it only follows then that Web development, the assembly of applications that run in the cloud, should itself find a home in the cloud.

In that spirit the Eclipse Foundation offers Orion, a new code base, accessible through a browser, that looks to match "the idioms of the Web rather than the desktop."

"Orion is a brand new, browser-based open tool integration platform which is entirely focused on developing for the Web, in the Web," said Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation.

Orion debuts with support for JavaScript, but could eventually expand to other languages, such as HTML, PHP and Java.
