Zucotto Wireless Inc., a provider of Java semiconductors for wireless devices, and PacketVideo Corp. Wednesday announced an agreement to work toward the porting of PacketVideo's wireless media technology to Zucotto's Xpresso Java native processor.
"This agreement is the result of the growing interest in cutting-edge, Java-based wireless Internet applications," said Mark Wells, president and chief executive officer of Zucotto. "By combining the power of Java with MPEG-4, service providers can deliver more robust and feature-rich video content over wireless networks."
During the initial phase of integration, the companies will port PacketVideo's wireless media software to Zucotto's WHITEboard Software Development Kit (SDK) platform. The next phase will integrate the PacketVideo software into Zucotto's Xpresso processor, which combines Java with Bluetooth personal area networking.
"Our partnership with Zucotto will enable developers to build Java-based applications utilizing PacketVideo's wireless media technology," said Dr. James Brailean, president, CTO and co-founder of PacketVideo. "The combination of our technologies will enable mobile device manufacturers to jump-start wireless multimedia capabilities for next-generation devices."
