IBM Pours More Java into Legacy Apps

IBM Corp is extending its Web support for enterprise systems with a slate of new production introductions in the eNetwork Software family.

Central to the product initiative is an enhancement to eNetwork Host On-Demand, Version 3, which was released in beta for public download and provides Beans for Java support so developers can write browser front-ends to legacy applications.

At the same time, IBM is updating Communications Server for Windows NT to version 6.0, with Java, ActiveX and ODBC interfaces. Version 6.0 includes TN5250 Server to support AS/400 applications over TCP/IP using shared folders and the option of using Secure Sockets Layer for session transport. LDAP, Tivoli TME 10 and load-balancing were also added.

In addition, IBM is unveiling Communication Server for UnixWare 7 for the Intel platform providing an SNA gateway, an integrated TN3270E server, high performance routing and APPN support. Unixware 7 now offers a graphical user interface for configuration and management.

The eNetwork family of products includes eNetwork Personal Communications client and servers for OS/2, AIX and OS/390.
