The new version will feature new tools designed to unleash the talents of Adobe Photoshop users. These include:
- the History Palette
- Editable Text Layers
- Spot-Color Channels
- Color Management support
The History Palette provides a much-requested solution, giving users the ability to undo multiple editing steps with a single click of the mouse.
Web developers will find the new Layer Effects tool to be invaluable. It automates the creation of effects such as shadows, glows, and bevels, enabling these effects to be attached to any layer with a few mouse clicks. The effects automatically regenerate themselves any time the layer is edited.
For those creating small text images for Web pages, the Editable Type w/Character Level Formatting will provide even greater precision and control. Text may flow horizontally or vertically, and the designer can mix multiple typefaces, adjust the size, kerning, baseline, and tracking.
Photoshop 5.0 will retail for US$995, and is expected to ship in May. Current Photoshop users can upgrade to Photoshop 5.0 for $199. For additional information about Photoshop 5.0, visit the Adobe Web site.
