Lotus Development Corp. this week announced support for Lotus' eSuite Workplace 1.5 on Sun Microsystems Inc.'s latest JavaStation network computer, Netra J, a combination the two companies will demonstrate next week at Internet World Summer in Chicago.
Sun's latest JavaStation NC is expected to be released later this month. The company recently started delivering the first of the new Netra Js to its 50 largest customers for beta testing.
The eSuite Workplace, according to Lotus, "includes the basic functionality needed by today's business user," along with a graphical interface that is "much simpler than today's PC interfaces." Lotus claims eSuite WorkPlace delivers "higher productivity and a dramatically lower total cost of computing."
The eSuite Workplace--a collection of task-specific business applets--includes:
- a Spreadsheet
- an E-Mail client
- a Word Processor
- Presentation Graphics
- a Calendar
- an Address Book
Final price for the eSuite WorkPlace will be $79 per user, or $49 for participants of Lotus' 120-day "try and buy" program. All eSuite licenses will include one year of product updates, the first of which is expected in September.
The beta testing period for eSuite begins on July 21st.
