New NetBeans Beta Released

NetBeans, Inc. today announced the release of the second beta version of NetBeans, a full-featured visual programming environment that allows for Java development on any Java-enabled platform.

In the four weeks since the first beta release of NetBeans in late June, over 10,000 new registered users downloaded the tool, according to the company.

The second beta features improvements in both functionality and stability. Changes in the Form Editor widened its compatibility, and have made it a full-featured development tool for both AWT and Swing/JFC with improved stability on non-windows platforms.

NetBeans combines cross-platform compatibility with ease-of-use, making a package that can dramatically cut development costs.

NetBeans Developer 2.0 beta 2 is available for download from the NetBeans Web site. The final release of NetBeans Developer 2.0 is scheduled for the third quarter of 1998, with a retail price of approximately $149.
