By Scott Clark
February 17, 1999

Adobe this week announced that its Acrobat software isn't just for PDF anymore. Adobe Acrobat 4.0 now features easy HTML to PDF conversion, making it easier to aggregate and re-use Web pages.

Acrobat 4.0 allows users to share, collaborate and deliver documents exactly as they were intended in an office computing environment. The software provides users with a rich set of annotation and security tools and the ability to re-use information within PDF files, along with high-end professional publishing features.

Acrobat has been enhanced to make it easier to create PDF files, use Web content, re-use content within a PDF file, annotate and secure documents, and create press-ready files for print production. Key features and benefits in this release include:

  • Convert Files into Adobe PDF Easily - convert files into PDF by dragging and dropping a file onto the Acrobat icon; Adobe PDFMaker enables users to convert Word, Excel or Microsoft PowerPoint files into PDF.
  • Capture and Download Fully Formatted Web Pages - download, annotate, scale, reliably print, and distribute fully formatted Web pages.
  • Re-use Information Within PDF Files - supports high-end professional publishing features and hierarchical metadata structure.
  • Review and Annotate Documents - add stamps, text blocks and audio clips; summarize and review annotations by navigating and filtering a document based on its annotations.
  • Digitally Sign Documents - supports digital signatures, enabling users to authenticate and safeguard information.
  • Optimize PDF Files for Print Production Workflows - deliver press ready files for print-production.

Adobe Acrobat 4.0 software should be available during the second quarter of this year for Windows and Macintosh at a retail price of $249. For additional information, visit the Adobe Web site.
