The Boston-based Goldhirsh Group, which publishes Inc. magazine, said it will establish a separate corporation to launch inc.com, a site for small businesses on the Web.
Chairman Bernard Goldhirsh said the move will be "a very significant investment in the expansion of the inc. franchise."
The goal of inc.com "is to be the primary destination site for small businesses entering the Web," the company said, offering information, products, services, applications and solutions designed and produced for small business owners. Revenues will be generated through e-commerce, advertising, sponsorship and content syndication.
"This major expansion of Inc.'s Internet business is rooted in the company's success as an established leader in franchise development and business extension in the publishing industry," said Robert LaPointe, currently president of Inc. Business Resources.
Goldhirsh will serve as CEO of inc.com while a search is underway to fill that position. The staff of inc.com will be located in a new venue separate from the magazine's headquarters in Boston.
